Following Texas’ recent move to defund Planned Parenthood, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Senator Ted Cruz released the following statement:
Today, my home state of Texas proved that states can make a real difference in the fight to block taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. I’m proud of Texas for leading the way in affirming the sanctity of life, and I thank Gov. Abbott for his principled commitment to protecting the lives of unborn children.
I encourage every state to follow Texas’ lead in stopping taxpayer funds from going to Planned Parenthood, and I will continue to lead the fight in the United States Senate to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level.
As Live Action News reported Monday, the state of Texas has informed Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast of its plan to terminate Medicaid funding to all Planned Parenthood affiliates in the state.
Due to video evidence of Planned Parenthood officials engaging in illegal actions as well as past instances of fraud, the state of Texas “determined that… Planned Parenthood affiliates are no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner,” according to Inspector General Stuart Bowen.
Along with several of his competitors in a crowded race for the Republican Presidential nomination, Ted Cruz has been an active and consistent voice in calling out Planned Parenthood.
Regardless of our personal voting plans, we can all hope that more states take note and answer Cruz’s call to action.
