Obama and willful lies – Does he finally understand?

If truth is what matters, it matters on every issue.

Yesterday, after the U.S. Senate failed to pass the bill on universal background checks for gun purchases, President Obama gave a speech in the Rose Garden. Reports have claimed that he was “angry,” that he “lashed out,” and that the loss was an “emotional blow” to the president. Indeed, President Obama has spent many hours for months campaigning for gun restrictions. And it seems that sensible people could reach a compromise to protect the innocent among us, while still preserving our constitutional rights.

Yet, in the midst of his anger or sorrow, the president resorted to accusations. He said:

But instead of supporting this compromise, the gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill.  They claimed that it would create some sort of ‘big brother’ gun registry, even though the bill did the opposite.  This legislation, in fact, outlawed any registry.  Plain and simple, right there in the text.  But that didn’t matter.

And unfortunately, this pattern of spreading untruths about this legislation served a purpose, because those lies upset an intense minority of gun owners, and that in turn intimidated a lot of senators. [Emphasis mine.]

In all likelihood, President Obama truly cares to make a difference on this issue for the right reasons. But his accusations bring his own statements and his own much-loved abortion lobby into question. Shall we talk about willful lies? Let’s.

In this video, Cecile Richards – president of Planned Parenthood and hardcore Obama campaigner – willfully lies about her organization providing mammograms:

Sorry, but it’s not that difficult to make it abundantly clear that – while your organization can recommend a facility for women to get a mammogram at – you do not, in fact, perform mammograms yourself.

During the 2012 campaign, The Washington Post detailed the multiple times President Obama also led voters to believe the wrong information about Planned Parenthood – clearly one of his favorite pastimes. Perhaps his worst statement came in October of 2012:

In many of these states Planned Parenthood is your only possible access to not only abortion but pap smears, cervical cancer screenings, mammograms. It is a place where women who may not otherwise have the means can take care of their own bodies.

— Obama interview with Glamour magazine

One can fairly assume that the president of the United States would be aware that multiple county health departments actually do provide women with free mammograms – not to mention pap smears, cancer screenings, and the like. Planned Parenthood is not a woman’s last or only hope. But, as The Washington Post aptly put it:

Obama’s campaign said the president was referring to Planned Parenthood’s broader role as a health-care provider. But the Democratic candidate has repeatedly suggested that the organization provides mammograms directly, indicating more than a slip-up. This claim seems to have become an intentional part of the incumbent’s talking points. …

This suggests an intentional attempt to mislead voters about all the services that are at stake with decisions regarding federal funding for the controversial group.

Willful lies indeed. And a “pattern of spreading untruths” that “served a purpose.” Let’s talk some more.

premature babyThe Washington Post also wrote that evidence pointed to another lie by President Obama during his ’08 campaign – this time on the issue of Born-Alive Infants Protection Acts. (These acts protect babies who survive abortions and order that they be properly cared for as newborns.)

Obama swore during the 2008 election that he would have supported the federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, prompting the National Right to Life Committee to issue a scathing white paper that pointed out how he had contradicted himself by voting against the Illinois measure while backing the older federal version in retrospect during his presidential campaign.

Obama denied any contradiction during an interview that year with the Christian Broadcasting Network, accusing the antiabortion committee of lying about the circumstances of his vote. Here’s what he said:

‘I hate to say that people are lying, but here’s a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported — which was to say — that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born — even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level. What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade.’From what we can tell, Obama misrepresented the facts during this interview. The 2003 bill addressed his concerns about undermining Roe v. Wade, and it matched the federal legislation that he supported virtually word for word.

So basically, Obama was lying when he accused other people of lying. What a mess. And all this to hide his extreme abortion policies that are clearly out of touch with the American people.

Obama’s position on infants who survive abortion is exactly the kind of position that allows the horrors committed by Kermit Gosnell. And even now, Obama refuses to speak out against the actions of Gosnell. Could it be because he would still refuse to vote to protect these babies, who were cruelly tortured and murdered?

Combine these willful lies by President Obama with other shady statements made by him or his staff, and you have a president who should understand what lies can do. Now that he believes that the lies have been directed to something he cares about, will President Obama stop his track record of misleading the public on Planned Parenthood and abortion?

If truth is what matters, it matters on every issue, Mr. President, not just your pet issues…
