Dear PBS, I don’t think there’s a compassionate way to murder infants

ultrasound, Vermont

Dear PBS,

This is quite the bold move. As a third rate, tax subsidized broadcasting outfit with a viewership in the single digits, I’d expect you’d try your best to fly under the radar. There is, after all, no conceivable reason for you to exist, nor is there a solid justification for spending tax money to keep afloat an irrelevant television channel that has long since drowned amid a sea of a million other channels.

Sure, you “only” bring in about 40 million dollars a year in tax money, but why draw attention to the scam? It might be a good 460 million dollars less than the amount that Obama gave to Planned Parenthood last year, but it’s still a sizable sum. It’s still 40 million dollars earmarked for a TV channel which provides absolutely nothing that can’t be found on dozens of other TV channels.

Yet here we are, and you’ve decided to air a 90 minute pro-late term abortion propaganda piece. Of all of the documentaries at your disposal, you chose to give airtime on your tax funded airwaves to a film that glorifies the butchery of viable, fully formed human beings.

The synopsis on your website says that the pro-infanticide film After Tiller paints a “humanizing” portrait of the “doctors” who openly kill fully developed babies who could survive outside of the womb — if they weren’t first poisoned or dismembered by these very “courageous” medical professionals.

In fact, I think the entire synopsis you provide is worth a read:

Martha Shane and Lana Wilson’s After Tiller is a deeply humanizing and probing portrait of the only four doctors in the United States still openly performing third-trimester abortions in the wake of the 2009 assassination of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas—and in the face of intense protest from abortion opponents. It is also an examination of the desperate reasons women seek late abortions. Rather than offering solutions, After Tiller presents the complexities of these women’s difficult decisions and the compassion and ethical dilemmas of the doctors and staff who fear for their own lives as they treat their patients.

The compassion of people who get paid to kill children.

Pray you never encounter that sort of “compassion,” PBS, for it ends in blood and death and suffering.

Imagine if you aired a documentary which painted slaveowners or Klan members as compassionate. You’d be condemned across the globe, funding would be cut, the President would publicly admonish you, and thousands of death threats would fill up your mailbox. But, instead, you broadcast a love letter to people who kill infants, and a mob of morally bankrupted liberals celebrate you for it.

So I know I’m in the anti-murdering-fully-developed-children-minority, but I still hope you’ll consider a few points about this movie you’re about to show:

First, yes, George Tiller was a late term abortionist who was murdered a few years ago. He was shot through the eye, as I understand, which means the man who aborted him used a far more humane method than the one Tiller used to slaughter 60 thousand human children.

Still, I don’t condone aborting abortionists. I think it’s morally wrong, but only a fool would act as though they don’t understand why a man who made millions through putting children down like rabid dogs at the kennel might be the target of considerable and passionate disapproval.

I hope his killer has asked for God’s forgiveness, but I also hope that the many people who feel no anger in the face of such unspeakable atrocities have also begged for the Lord’s mercy. I can tell you this: those who sit silently and condone the violent destruction of innocent children are, without question, guilty of a sin as serious as, if not more serious than, the man who let his disgust at these crimes against humanity get the best of him.

Interestingly, it’s precisely my opposition to abortion which allows me to oppose the late term abortion procedure that this man conducted on Tiller. It is only because I see abortion as wrong that I can see killing abortionists as wrong. But if I considered it to be morally sound to suck the brains out of babies, I suppose I’d be at a loss to explain why it’s morally unsound to blow the brains out of baby killers.

Ironically, only pro-lifers can really have a problem with pro-lifers murdering abortionists.

Second, it’s true that women who choose to kill their babies in the third trimester of pregnancy are desperate. By definition, this is a desperate act. But all murder is desperate. Rarely does one kill unless one feels especially compelled to do so. Nobody ever claimed that abortion is an unserious or flippant decision, nor has anyone argued that it isn’t a decision.

We understand that it’s both serious and a choice. This is not being disputed anywhere by anyone. The question, then, is whether it is the morally right choice. Or a better question: if destroying innocent life isn’t a wrong choice, then by what standard can we judge anything else to be a wrong choice?

I cannot comprehend how anyone could conjure up a definition of “morally wrong” that doesn’t include decapitating children, but does include, say, car theft and tax evasion (the sin of all sins, to be sure).

It’s essential here to note that, despite how it’s presented in this movie, most late term abortions are performed for the same reasons that most other abortions are performed. Financial issues, lifestyle concerns, relationship problems, etc.

Late term abortions are not done out of concern for the “health of the mother,” and under no circumstance is a third trimester abortion necessary to save a mother’s life.

Third, the “humanizing” efforts of After Tiller seem to revolve rather heavily around the fact that these doctors “fear for their lives.”

Perhaps they do, although those fears are likely overblown. A relative few abortion doctors have been killed over the past several decades, and the percentage is ever decreasing as our society continues to forget why it should even feel all that ticked off at people who assassinate children for a living.

Besides, Nazis also assumed an immense amount of personal and professional risk, as do pedophiles, as do terrorists. Indeed, many more Nazis, pedophiles, and terrorists have been killed than abortionists, so why don’t you air a documentary that tries to make us feel sorry for these other poor, helpless, monstrous victims?

Or maybe we can all just accept the inevitable reality that violent predators sometimes become prey. Maybe the best way to avoid that fate is to avoid engaging in acts of staggering evil and depravity. Maybe that’s a better strategy than killing 40 thousand kids and crying that sometimes folks get kinda upset about it.

Fourth, this is a hard one for me. I don’t want to act as though late term abortion is a greater evil than earlier term abortions. That only reinforces the ridiculous notion that babies at 18 weeks are somehow “less alive” than babies at 28 weeks. A life is a life. There can not be degrees or various severities to life. A thing is living or it is not. It is human or it is not. No scientist worth his weight in textbooks would ever tell you that life and humanity are somehow subjective.

But our culture has constructed a fantastic and utterly fictitious rationale which allows us to cooperate with evil without confronting the reality of what we’re doing. This is nothing new. Germans were guilty of this, slave era Americans were guilty of it. It takes the right mixture of cowardice, selfishness, and stupidity — and, God save us, humanity has never been in short supply of these ingredients.

So late term abortion isn’t worse than any other abortion, but it does exist outside of the rationale used by many pro-choicers. It is the same as the killing they otherwise condone, but it removes any and all pretense that the killing is anything other than killing. In that way, people who support late term abortion have achieved a new level of wickedness.

These are babies that look like babies, are developed like babies, are babies. Many of them could survive outside of the womb. Rather than letting them have life, rather than letting them be born alive and put up for adoption, we kill them hours before delivery, or sometimes during delivery, and dump their bodies down the toilet.

My kids were born premature and ended up in the NICU for a little while. When I was there, I saw a lot of infants like this:

Matt Walsh

This is what these compassionate abortion doctors are killing.

While real doctors work to save these children, blood thirsty, perverted, despicable, degenerate quacks charge enormous sums of money to steal their lives away.

Fifth, I noticed that the movie about late term abortion seems to contain very little information about late term abortion.

An innocent oversight, I’m sure, so please allow me to fill in the gaps.

We are told that Tiller, the Patron Saint of Infanticide, pioneered a new method that is both safe for the mother and painless for the baby.

Now, even if it were painless for the baby, justifying abortion based on “painlessness” is like justifying rape based on the woman’s unconsciousness. As it happens, though, the procedure is far from safe or painless for anyone involved (including the abortionist, apparently).

Tiller’s patented late term murdering method involves injecting the baby with a fatal dose of Digoxin, a drug originally made to combat heart disease, but used, in this case, to induce a massive heart attack. Tiller said this was “painless” and “peaceful,” but why don’t you go and have a massive heart attack and then come back and tell us just how painless and peaceful it all was.

After the baby dies, afraid, in agony, inside his mother’s womb, the abortionist sends the woman home. There, sometimes the baby will be “delivered” early, and the scared and guilt ridden young lady will endure a horrific scene where she gives birth to her murdered child’s corpse in the middle of her bedroom, or in a car, or in the bathroom at a hotel.

If, however, everything goes to plan, the “patient” will return to the clinic twice more, where she will be given more drugs until she finally ejects her dead child out of her birth canal, at which point it will either be tossed in a dumpster or flushed down the toilet.

Sometimes, the baby survives the initial poisoning and is born alive. At this point, many late term abortionsits will either sever its spinal cord with a pair of scissors, or leave it in the corner of the room to die alone.

Kermit Gosnell went to jail for this, which is absurd considering he didn’t do anything that every other late term abortionist hasn’t done at some point. And no matter how common live births are, in the end, the difference between killing a born infant or a Pre-born late term infant is only a matter of hours and location. There is no substantive distinction to be made between the two acts.

Other late term abortion procedures involve ripping the child to shreds as it leaves the uterus, or suctioning its brains out just seconds before it’s whole body emerges from the birth canal. The morbid lunacy of late term abortion can be perfectly encapsulated in the fact that we don’t consider it “murder” as long as the baby’s head is still inside of his mother’s vagina.

Sixth, your efforts to humanize abortionists are not necessary. We all know that abortionists are human. That’s why they’re so evil. If they were wolves, or crocodiles, or spiders, we wouldn’t be quite as disturbed by their propensity to murder children of their own species. But, as much as they behave like beasts, they are not. They are people. They are people who do terrible things. They are people who kill children. That’s who they are. We know. God help us, we know.

The only people who need to be “humanized” are the slaughtered children. They are the one group whose very humanity we deny. We all recognize the personhood of born humans — black, white, gay, straight, Christian, atheist — our modern society does not fundamentally and categorically deny any of these groups entry into the human race. And thank goodness for that.

But Pre-born children are denied entry. If they are inconvenient we murder them, if they are disabled we murder them, if they are unplanned we murder them, if they are too expensive we murder them, if they are sick we murder them, if they are unwanted we murder them, if they are the wrong gender we murder them. We murder them and we don’t even have the integrity to face what we are doing. We murder them for things beyond their control; things that, if they were born, we’d have to accept, tolerate, embrace, and love.

If they are sick and born, we treat them. Disabled and born, we help them. Expensive and born, we sacrifice for them. Inconvenient and born, we adjust for them. Unwanted and born, we adopt them. Unplanned and born, we change our plans for them. If they are born, in whatever state, in whatever circumstance, we care for them. We kiss them, we hug them, we feed them, we clothe them, we fawn over them, we talk about them, we look at pictures of them and our hearts are filled with joy at the sight of them.

But before birth, we treat them like cockroaches. Discarded, murdered, forgotten, ignored.

Humanize?

Look behind those abortion clinics, PBS. Whose bodies are in the hazardous waste containers? Whose corpses are incinerated by the thousands? Whose heart is injected with poison? Whose spinal cord is snipped?

The abortionists? Or the babies?

You answer that question, and then tell me who needs the humanizing around here.

Shame on you, PBS.

Propagate baby murder and you share in the sin.

Sincerely and with all of the respect that you deserve,

Matt Walsh
