CA Supreme Court lets biased prosecution of Planned Parenthood investigators continue

Planned Parenthood

A May 15 press release from Liberty Counsel reveals that the high-profile case The People of the State of California v. David Robert Daleiden and Sandra Susan Merritt is once again moving forward. The continuation comes after the California Supreme Court denied a request from Sandra Merritt to review bias and collusion between Attorney General Xavier Becerra and Planned Parenthood. Merritt, alongside David Daleiden, is being charged in felony court for her participation in the undercover videos which expose Planned Parenthood’s involvement in harvesting and selling aborted baby body parts.

On April 19, the California Supreme Court issued an emergency stay in the case after Merritt’s representation, Liberty Counsel, filed to recuse Becerra on account of his well-documented bias and heavy involvement with Planned Parenthood.

Becerra has publicly promised to “stand with Planned Parenthood,” and both he and his predecessor, now Senator Kamala Harris, have received thousands of dollars in campaign donations from the pro-abortion organization. Both Harris and Becerra maintained their close relationship with Planned Parenthood and its entities even after proceeding with the investigation against Daleiden and Merritt. According to Daleiden’s representation, the Thomas More Society, Planned Parenthood even sponsored and hosted Becerra’s election night victory party.

Despite significant evidence documenting this conflict of interest, the California Supreme Court is allowing Becerra to continue prosecuting the case.

Liberty Counsel is not letting the current ruling deter its fight in the case. “Sandra Merritt did not violate any law, and we confidently continue to present the evidence that demonstrates California’s first-ever prosecution of an undercover journalist is selective and discriminatory,” said Mat Staver, Liberty Counsel’s Founder and Chairman.

The court will now reschedule a preliminary hearing as the case against Merritt moves forward. During this hearing, Becerra will present evidence to try and convince the judge that Merritt and Daleiden should stand trial before a jury on fifteen felony charges related to their undercover videos.
