Planned Parenthood claims to be a “force for hope” in its latest annual report, but the abortion corporation, which kills over 400,000 babies in the U.S. every year while accepting $800M in taxpayer funding, has a history of coercing and even forcing women into having their children killed.
Women shared shocking personal stories for the campaign, Silent No More Awareness, alleging that Planned Parenthood not only failed to provide them with real health care, but also bullied them into having abortions.
Julianne
A woman from Tennessee named Julianne wrote that she visited Planned Parenthood at age 19 for an abortion out of desperation, after she became pregnant by a boyfriend 14 years her senior — who pressured her into having the abortion. Both Julianne and her boyfriend were using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, and Julianne didn’t think she would be able to raise a child.
Planned Parenthood seemed to offer her a quick and easy solution to her problems:
So off to Planned Parenthood I went to quickly, quietly, and easily take care of what I rationalized was only a ‘clump of cells’ at this point anyway—and on taxpayer dollars, no less. They made it all quite convenient and at no personal cost or sacrifice to me.
I applied for state aid to pay for the procedure and even received the bonus of food stamps I didn’t need in order to provide my body with nutrition for a child I was going to kill in a week. Talk about government bureaucracy at its finest.
Julianne claimed the Planned Parenthood nurse wouldn’t allow her to see the ultrasound:
I do not know if providing an ultrasound was common practice back then, but I do know mine was necessary in order to establish how far along I was.
When I laid there and watched this happening, the nurse would not allow me to look at the screen. She did not want me to see a moving baby inside me, with a head and hands and legs and feet and a heartbeat.
Somehow, I maneuvered and managed a glimpse despite her objections.
Julianne alleged that staff didn’t provide her with any counseling about all her options (including adoption), nor did they warn her about mental health risks of abortion, provide her with pregnancy resources, or give her a waiting period before the abortion. She claims that 10 minutes after talking with Planned Parenthood staff, she was lying on the procedure table. But she had changed her mind about wanting an abortion at that point:
Less than 10 minutes later I was lying on the operating table, and I had completely changed my mind. ALL IT HAD TAKEN WAS AN ULTRASOUND TO MAKE ME REALIZE THERE WAS A BABY INSIDE ME, AND I COULDN’T GO THROUGH WITH IT.
I told everyone present to STOP the procedure.
They did not.
“The next moment, I felt a gas mask going over my face,” she said. “I remember struggling as I understood what was happening to me. I awoke a few minutes later, and my first thought was, ‘I hope they didn’t kill my baby.’ I cried out and asked if they had done the abortion, and of course they had. My grief was overwhelming. So was my shock, anger, and betrayal.”
Julianne wrote, “Since then, when I hear or read about the praises of Planned Parenthood and how they provide ‘healthcare’ to women, I am sickened. They offered no HEALTH for me or my baby. They only sought to steal life and health…. Where was their CARE for me? Where was their CARE for my child? Where was their CARE for my desire to stop the procedure?…”
Jeanne
When Jeanne from Massachusetts became pregnant by her boyfriend, the couple chose abortion.
They went to a Planned Parenthood, and Jeanne became overwhelmed with emotions about the abortion, but allegedly her boyfriend and the staff paid no attention to her concerns:
One week later I am sitting in Planned Parenthood (a name I find completely hilarious considering they do not help you plan anything besides abortion). I am speaking to a women at the front desk filling out paperwork and it all feels very sterile and devoid of any compassion.
When I am done with paperwork I go to sit down and wait. I am looking around the waiting area I observe people texting and reading the waiting room magazines; honestly I felt like I was waiting at the DMV.
I was very overwhelmed with emotion and I tried to express this to my boyfriend, but he was little comfort. ‘We already decided and we drove all this way.’ My head was spinning so fast I almost didn’t realize that the nurse was ushering me into a room.
Jeanne said she opted for sedation during her abortion, but changed her mind about the abortion once she was given the sedation medication.
“They gave me the option of being put under general anesthesia or to get something to calm me down, I took the latter thinking ‘I am aborting my baby, the least I could do is be conscious for the procedure.’ They gave me the medication, and as I sat there waiting for it to kick in, I had a change of heart,” she said. When she tried to exit the examination room, she was stopped by a nurse:
I got up from the chair, grabbed my bag and started walking to the waiting area when I was stopped in the hallway by a nurse. She asked me where I was going and I explained to her that I change my mind and I want to think about it some more.
She told me to hold on a second and she would get the doctor to come speak with me so I turned around and went back in the room and sat down.
But the doctor did not listen:
The doctor walked into a room and picked up my chart and started reading it. The atmosphere in the room was cold, almost like a giant rain cloud was filling the air.
The doctor didn’t introduce himself or look at me, he just said that it was too late to back out because they gave me medication already.
Jeanne claims the Planned Parenthood abortionist lied to her when he told her it was “too late to back out.” She hadn’t even begun the actual procedure. The staff and her boyfriend took advantage of Jeanne in her vulnerable state, and she was coerced into having her preborn baby killed:
At this point, I was so exhausted, feeling very loopy from the medication, and intimidated by the doctor, the nurses and my boyfriend so I just gave up.
I didn’t know why I was so upset, I didn’t want a baby and this was fixing that so just get it over with and forget it ever happened; easy enough. Except it was anything but.
Aimee
Aimee was a young, single mom when she became pregnant by an abusive boyfriend. She scheduled an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility.
She claimed that the staff failed to offer her “any pre-abortion counseling” and that she didn’t meet the abortionist until she was lying on the operating table with her feet in stirrups:
I scheduled an abortion in June 1993. I was taken to Planned Parenthood in Kansas City. The staff ushered me into an interview room. Asked a couple of questions. Given info on the vacuum type abortion. I was not offered any pre-abortion counseling. I was not made to wait to validate my decision. It was like pulling a tooth to them.
I was sent to the procedure room alone. I was asked to get in the feet holders and spread my legs. I did not meet my abortionist until my legs were spread and my body was in position.
When Aimee asked the Planned Parenthood nurse for reassurance about her decision, she says the nurse encouraged her that killing her baby was best:
I asked the nurse if I was making the right decision. She told me it was, based on my history and having a child already and no money, it was the best thing I could do.
I was encouraged and cheered on at the decision to have an abortion. I was sedated.
Allegedly, staff quickly changed their encouraging tune when Aimee asked to see her baby on the ultrasound, and then physically forced her to have the abortion:
I then begged to see the ultrasound so I could see my baby once. They refused. I cried and cried. I tried to close my legs, but they were spread against my will.
They said I was fine and continued the vacuum tube was put in my vagina and the vacuum turned on. I said I wanted to run away and save the life of my baby. They ignored me, I was semi sedated.
The procedure was over pretty fast. I was still bleeding when I was taken to a recovery room.
This is not health care. This is coercion.
The stories referenced above resemble some of the accounts in “One Child Nation,” a film about China’s One-Child Policy, which details horrific abortion coercion under China’s Communist dictatorship. Could similar violence against the preborn and their mothers be occurring across the U.S. in Planned Parenthood facilities?
It is time to defund Planned Parenthood.
