A March for Life on April 26 in Prague, Czech Republic, was thwarted from reaching its final destination after pro-abortion activists formed a blockade, halting the marchers.
According to The Czech News Agency (ČTK), the march was organized by the group Movement for Life. It started with a Catholic mass at St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, and pro-lifers then gathered at Hradčanské Square with the intent of marching to Wenceslas Square. That attempt was halted when several hundred pro-abortion protesters formed a blockade. Police arrested around 30 of those counter-protesters.
On Saturday the 26th On April 2025, the right to assemble several thousand participants of the March for Life was grossly violated. Mostly families with children faced hate speech and intimidation in downtown Prague. The gathering was subsequently blocked in the narrow streets by extremist groups. Police of the Czech Republic has limited itself to formal steps without any real effort to clear the way, which actually enabled and encouraged unlawful and violent behavior.
We are considering next steps — complaints to the Minister of the Interior, the Police President and other responsible institutions. But first and foremost, we will defend ourselves legally and demand that the courts decide whether it is permissible for citizens, including parents with children, to be intimidated and attacked if they want to express their opinions freely.

A statement from the Archdiocese of Prague noted that the March for Life was “ended prematurely” due to the protesters.
Abortion is legal in the Czech Republic for any reason up to 12 weeks and through 40 weeks if the baby receives a health diagnosis or to save a woman’s life, though induced abortion — the intentional and deliberate killing of a preborn child — is not medically necessary. Data from the Czech Statistical Office reported that in 2024, 15,000 preborn lives were lost due to abortion.
ČTK reports that abortion advocates are fighting to expand the country’s laws and abortion access even further, claiming there is still considerable abortion opposition within the country.
