Live Action’s Lila Rose Applauds Chen Guangcheng’s Courageous Effort to Expose China’s One-Child Policy

Washington, D.C. – Today, Live Action praised human rights activist Chen Guangcheng whose escape from house arrest and call to the United States has put the spotlight on his home country’s one-child policy which has led to women being forced into abortions, usually under great duress.  The group called on China, in light of recent events, to reverse course on its policy.

“The brave actions of Chen Guangcheng have revealed to the world the disturbing practices that are going on in China– including forced and sex-selective abortions,” said Lila Rose, Founder and President of Live Action. “China’s one-child policy has had devastating effects on their country and is a direct attack on the dignity of the human person and the dignity of women.  Women are pressured to abort their little girls and if they refuse, they are forced to have an abortion or can be forcibly sterilized.

“We cannot allow this violation of human rights and violence against women to continue.  The United States and the international community must pressure China to stop its assault on women and their unborn children.”

Chen Guangcheng is a blind Chinese human rights activist who has been harassed by the Chinese government for more than seven years for his outspoken criticism of China’s one-child policy and the subsequent forcing of women to have abortions by the government.  Following his escape from house arrest this week to the U.S. embassy in Beijing, and subsequent return to Chinese custody, China and the United States have been negotiating for him and his family to travel to the United States.  He recently called into a hearing held by the U.S. House of Representatives asking for United States diplomatic help for the safety his family and protection from Chinese authorities.

Live Action is a youth led movement dedicated to building a culture of life and ending the human rights injustice of abortion.  They use new media to educate the public about the humanity of the unborn and investigative journalism to expose threats against the vulnerable and defenseless.  More information at
