The Advisors Behind the Contraception Mandate

According to ABC’s Jake Tapper, the most influential supporters of the controversial Contraception Mandate were HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, former Director of Domestic Policy Melody Barnes (who has resigned from the Obama administration), Presidential Advisor Valerie Jarrett, and President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards.

Other than their support for this mandate, they have something else in common: they are all unabashedly pro-abortion.

Why was Cecile Richards, who is not an official White House advisor, included in the discussions so prominently? Why was someone who could directly benefit from this mandate included, yet the very organizations that would be forced to provide this coverage against their beliefs, were excluded from the conversation?

Michelle Obama Fails Women Victimized by Planned Parenthood

Traditionally, the wives of Presidents use their role as First Lady of the United States to champion feel-good, relatively nonpartisan causes. Rosalynn Carter promoted the arts. Laura Bush spoke about reading. Current First Lady Michelle Obama’s cause has been encouraging healthy habits among children. But as Steven Ertelt reports, some of Mrs. Obama’s guests at a recent Women of Courage Award ceremony send a much darker message:

The award recipients were also invited to the White House event that commemorated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and recognizing March as Women’s History Month in the United States. However, the president of the national Planned Parenthood abortion business was there. Read more Michelle Obama Fails Women Victimized by Planned Parenthood

CONGRESS INVESTIGATES: Rep. Cliff Stearns’ letter to Planned Parenthood

[We’ll have more on this developing story soon…]

Rep. Cliff Stearns, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations has written an official letter to Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, demanding documentation to investigate whether the nation’s largest abortion provider is handling its federal funding properly and to what degree it is properly following federal guidelines on the mandatory reporting of underage sexual abuse, etc.

Panic Button: Cecile Richards Condemns New Health Rules That Huge Majority Support!

Let’s be clear: you can never make abortion 100% “safe” for women until abortion ends.

But we can, on the way to victory, require abortion centers to follow health codes that other medical environments must already comply with, and that’s exactly what the Virginia Board of Health recently voted 12-1 to do (the Virginia assembly previously backed the move in a bi-partisan vote).

Planned Parenthood CEO: Providing Information Is “Cruel”

Cecile Richards, the CEO of Planned Parenthood, sent out an email asking: “Why is Rick Perry so cruel to women?

Richards complained, among other things, about Gov. Perry’s support of the Texas law that would require abortion providers to show an expectant mother a sonogram of her baby, along with a description and the heartbeat. All facts. No opinions. Just the information that correctly and completely explains the procedure as required for a fully educated choice.

But Richards attacked these measures as “burdens” and “dangerous.” Why is Richards so upset?

“Catholics for Choice” Nets $300,000 Grant From Foundation Planned Parenthood CEO Helps Lead

Catholics for Choice is an organization that advocates for the right to abort one’s child — against established Catholic church teaching. While the organization has twice been condemned as a fraud by U.S. Catholics bishops but they boast a significant budget funded mostly by a select group of foundations. This year, the Ford Foundation gave Catholics for Choice a $300,000 grant as seen below:

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is a trustee of the Ford Foundation and chairs the board’s Finance Committee. Ford Foundation documents show that the Finance Committee holds major sway over where fund go:

The Finance Committee shall assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to: reviewing and monitoring spending policy for the Foundation consistent with the Foundation’s long term goals; reviewing and monitoring the Foundation’s budget, including program and management appropriations and capital spending; and such other matters as the Board of Trustees may from time to time determine.

  • Since it is established that Catholics for Choice (and the Ford Foundation via their funding) are working to change Catholic teaching, does Cecile Richards as a non-Catholic support this move to change Catholic teaching on abortion?
  • Does Cecile Richards feel it is appropriate as a non-Catholic to try to advocate changing Catholic church beliefs? Does Richards feel it is appropriate to try to change the beliefs or Muslims or other faiths she is not a member of?

Planned Parenthood Sponsors “Progressive Candidate Training”

Planned Parenthood likes to claim that they are a non-partisan, non-profit organization but in Arizona they aren’t just advocating for abortion and funding for their organization, they are sponsoring an ideologically driven and arguably partisan candidate training event.

The flyer says:

The Arizona Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is designed to help individuals develop the skills and resources they need to advance progressive change through local elected office.

The flyer also states:

The Arizona Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is sponsored by the Center for Progressive Leadership, Planned Parenthood Arizona and the Arizona Education Association.

Whether one supports “Progressive” political ideology or not, this shows that Planned Parenthood’s lobbying efforts are not just about them getting government funds or advancing the right to terminate one’s unborn child, they are involved in pushing a broad political agenda.

Pro-Abortion Strategist Criticizes Planned Parenthood’s Abortion Silence

On the Huffington Post, Rebecca Sive, a pro-abortion strategist, wrote a note to Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, urging Richards to stop avoiding the word abortion and start defending the “right” to abortion.

Sive warned, “Cecile: Your fight this morning after [the Senate vote against defunding Planned Parenthood] is about just one thing: keeping abortion safe and legal, not about whether ‘… Planned Parenthood can continue to provide Pap smears…’ Please, please: Don’t play us, the supporters you are dependent on, for fools. You can’t win without us; we need you to be straight with us; we both know what time it is, and it’s not the time you’re saying.”

“Cecile: We both know that the fight we’ve been in for the $300 million isn’t about Republican Congressmen being ‘… out of touch with the health care needs of American women…’ We both know it is about access to legal abortion, frequently provided at a Planned Parenthood clinic.”

Sive then turned to Richards’ April 13th appearance on the Rachel Maddow Show, and criticized Richards for twice dodging Maddow’s question about whether abortion services are worth fighting for.

In a clear sign of worry, her own supporters are calling her out. Richards’ inability to speak without making false claims is catching up to her. Richards’ unwillingness to debate abortion, however, is a calculated move. She knows she’d lose.

What do sophisticated pro-abortion proponents say when not avoiding the word abortion? They invoke science, and claim the issue should be decided by facts not ideology. While this tactic is highly effective in media interviews with friendly reporters and hosts who rarely ask any follow-up questions, it’s risky, because the facts prove human life begins at conception. So, if asked, how do they answer? They admit, yes, a human fetus (or embryo or zygote) is a human life, but a human fetus (or embryo or zygote) is not a person. Again, this answer usually goes unchallenged in an interview, but it too is risky, because the word person is neither a scientific word nor a medical word. The “person” argument requires pro-abortion proponents to resort to ideology, which defeats their own argument.

So while Sive, Maddow and many on the pro-abortion side are pleading for a fight, Richards knows the pro-abortion position can easily be exposed, regardless of which argument is used. That’s why she won’t debate. But others, like Sive, seem to be taking the position that debates aren’t lost when one side fares poorly, debates are lost when one side refuses to fight. With the facts and the public moving to the pro-life side, the days of abortion on demand are in serious jeopardy.

Planned Parenthood CEO Still Can’t Defend Abortion

On her April 13th MSNBC show, Rachel Maddow made the following observation: “The thing that no one really seems to be saying is, hey, it’s also really important that Planned Parenthood is able to provide access to abortion. Do you think that is emerging as a political problem here, that people – there aren’t enough people standing up specifically for the abortion rights side of this fight?”

Maddow was speaking to Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood. As she always does, Richards dodged the question by changing the subject. “Well, I think folks are very familiar with Planned Parenthood that we provide full reproductive health care in America. And that’s really important,” she answered.  “But I think what is important, too, Rachel, that folks understand that literally what the House of Representatives and what Speaker Boehner are trying to do is not end abortion services. They are literally trying to eliminate birth control and cancer screenings for women.”

Once again, Richards said: “They are literally trying to eliminate birth control and cancer screenings for women.” And to put this in context, Richards had just finished complaining about others making outrageous statements. So this was a serious answer. Amazing.

What the House of Representatives and Speaker Boehner are trying to do is deny federal funding to Planned Parenthood. And if successful, Planned Parenthood would still be free to provide birth control and cancer screenings for women. More importantly, however, is the fact that nationwide there are over 8,000 community health center delivery sites, compared to only 800 Planned Parenthood sites. And community health centers, compared to Planned Parenthood, provide a wider array of health care services — and for the vast majority, no abortion. So despite Richards’ best efforts to divert attention with false accusations against Republicans, and false claims that Planned Parenthood is the only health care provider available for many women, the issue here is abortion, an issue she refuses to debate.

Maddow kept trying. “On that specific issue of abortion, though, specifically really with that issue in the states I guess rather than at the federal government because we got the Hyde Amendment at the federal level, do you expect this fight to morph into a, frankly, Democratic Party-based defense of access to abortion?” she asked. “Right now, Democrats are not mounting a very stiff resistance to what Republicans are doing in the state, specifically on access to abortion services.”

In response, Richards avoided even mentioning the word abortion, let alone defending the practice. “I have actually been encouraged at the federal level to see not only Democratic senators coming to the defense of Planned Parenthood but also Republican senators,” she told Maddow. “So, I am hoping we’re beginning to see Republicans and Democrats come together in defense of women’s reproductive health care.”

The pro-abortion position is so weak that Richards can’t even defend abortion when speaking to a sympathetic pro-abortion television host. No wonder she refuses to debate anyone on the pro-life side.

The Vote is tomorrow–Call your Senators now!

Tomorrow, the Senate votes on a bill to defund Planned Parenthood. They need to hear from you today!

Late last Friday night, Congress and the White House were still buzzing with activity, working to negotiate the U.S. budget to prevent government “shutdown”. News reports late Friday night focused on Planned Parenthood, calling it the final point of disagreement between the House and Senate. It’s reported that President Obama told House Leadership “nope, zero” – that he would allow “zero” budget cuts to Planned Parenthood, no matter the consequences. Pro-abortion forces spun this debate as “whether or not to fund women’s healthcare”, and “the House wants to shut down the government to hurt women.”

The truth is: the budget for the United States of America came down to funding Planned Parenthood; a rampantly abusive and corrupt organization which kills over 300,000 of our unborn brothers and sisters. And President Obama and Senate Leadership proved that they would rather shut down the government, and stop paying the U.S. Military, instead of agreeing to make a single budget cut to the largest abortion chain in America.

But the budget battle is not over yet. The battle is still in the Senate.

As part of a budget compromise, the Senate will vote TOMORROW, Thursday, on an individual bill of whether or not to fund Planned Parenthood. Your Senator needs to hear from you now. Call your Senator’s office and remind them of the abuses at Planned Parenthood. Remind them that this is a human rights and a women’s health issue: that among many other abuses, Planned Parenthood has an a radical pro-abortion agenda, aborts over 330,000 unborn children every year, and covers up the abuse and trafficking of young girls.

Find out how to call your Senator here:

Planned Parenthood and their allies are still reeling from our investigative work and videos. Live Action’s work over the past three months has electrified the pro-life movement and inspired thousands.  The nation was shocked when we exposed the horrific cover-up of child sex-trafficking rings by Planned Parenthood employees.  And just recently, in a desperate attempt to save their tax funding, Planned Parenthood went on record claiming credit for phony services – which Live Action exposed in our mammogram investigation.

As Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards says, our work and the movement in Congress and across the country has been “the most devastating attack” that Planned Parenthood has ever known.  But our work to expose the truth is far from over: in fact, it’s just begun. The cover up of abuse, the victimization of the vulnerable, the the killing the most vulnerable in our nation must be investigated, and exposed.

Call your Senator today and make sure they know the truth about Planned Parenthood.

Tell your friends, spread the truth about Planned Parenthood, and call your Senator today.

Misleading and Outrageous Attacks — but by Whom?

Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, issued a statement on Rep. Mike Pence. “Having failed for now to eliminate breast exams, cancer screenings and birth control that millions of American women count on, Representative Mike Pence continues his misleading and outrageous attacks on Planned Parenthood and the preventive health care our doctors and nurses provide,” Richards wrote. “Representative Pence well knows that for over 30 years not a dollar of federal funding that Planned Parenthood has received to provide preventive and basic health care has paid for abortion, but he continues to mislead everyone he talks to.”

Misleading and outrageous attacks? Yes. But Richards is the one making such attacks. The Pence Amendment doesn’t eliminate breast exams, cancer screenings, or birth control. Further, the Pence Amendment doesn’t reduce funding for breast exams, cancer screenings, or birth control. And Richards knows that. What do you call it when someone says something they know isn’t true?

Enough of Richards. What did Pence say? Appearing on ABC’s This Week with Christiane Amanpour, Pence said, “What was clear here, this administration, and liberals in Congress were willing to shut the government down to continue to fund abortion providers in this country. And that’s the bottom line. Why would I fight for it? Let me explain. I’m pro life. I don’t apologize for it. I also think it’s morally wrong to take the tax dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use it to fund abortion providers.”

  • Fact: Planned Parenthood is an abortion provider.
  • Fact: Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider.
  • Fact: Every word spoken by Pence was and is completely true and completely accurate.
